White Cats and their crowning glory !

Shes gorgeous and I love our cat to bits....shes half persian and has downy soft white hair underneath and then longer hair over the top... Doesn't matter what vacuum cleaner I get, I find removing pure white hair off rugs really really difficult... any hints?...thanks

Re: White Cats and their crowning glory !

We use a rubber broom from Oates..you can buy it a Kmart or coles... found it really helped pull most of the hair up..
Hope that helps sandy..

Re: White Cats and their crowning glory !

hi Sandy
I just happened to be reading Take 5 magazine this morning and it said in its tips section to remove pet hair from rugs, put on a pair of Crocs shoes and rub your foot over the rug in straight lines.. ?? maybe that might help?

Re: White Cats and their crowning glory !

If the above hints, and thankyou all don't work, have visions of me laying on huge midnight blue rugs with a rolled up ball of sticky tape, dabbing at the little darlings shedded fur lol....

Re: White Cats and their crowning glory !

Hi Sandybeach, she sounds just lovely, my boy Badger is mainly white, he too is long coated, I find those little yellow sponge 'scubbers', with the wiry, green, plastic top layer, pretty good for removing his hairs from my rugs and stair carpet.
Use just damp, either de-fluff them as you go along (eco-friendly)or buy loads and chuck!

As for sellotape, that works well for clothing, wrap layers of it around your hand, sticky side out  and 'wipe' all over your outfit just before you hit the door.
Even more fun get your partner to do it!

Failing that, don't buy black clothing! Or Navy Blue, or Dark Brown or Bottle Green or Burgundy or------ anything exept White!!

If you get really fed up, you could aways put her on a plane to me? she'd be company for Badger and Pudsey!(short coated, no trouble)

I try to groom Badger every day, he adores it, comes running when I pick up his brush, he would do it himself if he could, always grabbing the brush and guiding me to the 'itchy bits'!

Best of luck, Kerris UK

Re: White Cats and their crowning glory !

Never too late
I have a white haired, blue eyed Bengal and for getting her hairs
off my rugs I find 2 ways the 'Greek shover'(don a good pair of sneekers)
and moonwalk the rug with your feet to music, or invest in a decent steam
cleaner which works wonders for pet hairs and allergies.
The thing that gets me is they (I have 2 house cats) keep biting their claws n
sheding them around the house.  It's as bad as human toenail clippings.

Re: White Cats and their crowning glory !

Another inexpensive way is to wear cheap dish gloves slightly dampened with water and rub in a kind of circular motion. It has the same grip effect as 'rubber' style materials. The tape is good but I find it is used up very quickly.

Re: White Cats and their crowning glory !

Gyspy - I used to have two bengals and they were constantly shedding claws, it was gross!!

Re: White Cats and their crowning glory !

Hmmm, i have white shag-pile floor boards ;-).....'tis annoying, they(cats) never seem to stop shedding...:-(
For the carpets, i use a stiff broom and it works..it is hard work though.........i think i will invest in a rubber broom as mentioned above.
TY.

Re: White Cats and their crowning glory !

Hi all,

If it seems the more you brush, the more they shed...well apparently, brushing never fully reaches or removes the downy undercoat layers (only loosens which causes more fall-out). But these brushes are touted as the way to go:

(be sure to get the entire link pasted in)

Re: White Cats and their crowning glory !

I use a 'Furminator' on my girl. They are expensive but do a fantastic job. Pet Stock normally has them in a few sizes. Great for the whole family!

Re: White Cats and their crowning glory !

I agree about the furminator..I have a white long haired German Shepherd and she constantly shreds her coat all over the house..I don't have any carpets but wooden floors so its not so bad, I can just sweep up the hairs..But it has been alot better since I brought a furminator..Expensive but well worth it..

Re: White Cats and their crowning glory !

Finally... after trying lots of different ideas, thanks everyone, we came across the rubber broom (as mentioned here previously) at Bunnings, dont ya just love Bunnings !... its just like a broom except the bristles are blue rubber and it cost 15 dollars...

Well, it works really well and amazing all the 'hidden' white fleecy hair that appeared, even after vacuuming...

Also read that a mixture of fabric softener and water sprayed on carpet rugs/furnuture before vacuuming helps as well...

Anyways, the rubber broom seems to do the job

Thanks girls/bois/hyms/femmes etc
